hat trick of our mane man, jules tognini

It’s the third year in a row that Jules has been named as ‘Men’s Hairdresser of the Year’ at the 2015 Schwarzkopf Professional Hair Expo Awards but this year, he also walked away with ‘Educator of the Year’ and ‘Photographic Collection of the Year’. His submission for this year’s awards showcased rustic, raw and edgy black and white shots photographed by Adam Flinch. The gala event was the grand finale of the annual Hair Expo weekend, which was a culmination of three days of unrivalled education and inspiration. The event itself was described, as the hairdressing industry’s “night of nights”, bringing the best of the best together for one big celebration of individual talent and style. Congratulations Jules, you deserve this. •

GenNext gala gets royalty to compere

Also at Hair Expo, Benni and Jules compered at the sell out GenNext Gala, the most vibrant hair event of the year. Needless to say, the duo had the audience in a fit of giggles with most attempting to take the perfect #selfie. The Gala saw eight hairdressers participate in live stage performances, where they presented their talents in a 5-minute show. Congratulations to La Biosthetique who won the event. •

jules headed to the usa

Jules Tognini, resident hipster, has been up to mischief again in the USA, promoting his ‘lil off the top’ channel with the dudes from evo to teach the Yankees all there is to know about hair. His beautiful wife, Erin and bundle of joy Iggy, obviously didn’t want to miss out on all the fun, so they jet-setted overseas to make sure Jules didn’t cause too much damage. Chop your way through the adventures by checking out the ‘lil off the top’ Instagram channel.•

The ultimate mother of boys, Tracey was featured in Brisbane News as the modern grandmother. Discussing her grandmother duties with the kids, the story showed how Tracey is not afraid of being a grandmother and confirmed that we will never see her wearing Osti dresses and sensible shoes. Alongside Tracey, Jules was named as the ‘Man about Town’. The snippet, which featured eight questions, discussed everything from what car Jules drives “We have a Hyundai and a Kia – I like to support the Koreans”, to his hobbies, his pick for the best coffee place and his favourite place to chill. When he isn’t cutting hair at the AKA Togninis salon or playing with Iggy, we know we can find Jules at either Brewbakers in Albion or down at Burleigh beach. •

slip, slop, slap.

After a scorcher of a summer, we ask the question of how many of you put sunscreen on? A study conducted in 23 countries, including Australia, showed that 2 in 5 people don’t think to protect their skin against the sunrays. Only 32% of Australians protect themselves from the sun all year round and only 58% of Australians apply sunscreen to the face during direct sun exposure. To protect yourself against the sunrays, we recommend Skinstitut’ Age Defence 50+. Great for everyday use under make up that doesn’t leave the face feeling greasy. •
